For The Workplace Agency team, working in the dynamic and rich ‘built heritage’ space as we have for the past 20 years is a privilege. We understand the historic, economic, and emotional value of our old structures and the role they play in making our communities unique and as well as part of something bigger.  While we know we need to protect and conserve, we also understand the need for sustainability, to promote growth, promote the community’s ambition, and innovation.

We subscribe to a contemporary ’values-based’ approach to talking about heritage that involves describing what is valuable (significant) and then exploring scenarios for its positive change.

We understand that heritage is preserved for both its value of being “useful”, such as tourism or redevelopment, as well as for the “public good”, such as social cohesion and education. We love engaging with stakeholders to consider the balance of these needs.

Bryan Wintermeyer has been interested and involved in heritage-related activities for about 16 years.  His interest in heritage matters grew from the practical (understanding the rules) to wider issues of context, theoretical positions, public interaction and education. In addition to the work, he is involved in a small heritage interest group and with education, where issues of how heritage engages with the public and the other stakeholders are of growing interest.
